The Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision led by Justice Tijjani Abubakar, has confirmed the death sentence by hanging of Theophilus Friday, convicted for the kidnapping, murder, and mutilation of 18-month-old Rachael Akingboye.
The Court upheld the 2014 decision of the High Court of Ondo State, which had also sentenced two others, Olusegun Obaro and Jonah Lase, to death for their roles in the heinous crime.
The prosecution revealed that Obaro and Lase kidnapped the child, later handed her to Friday, who orchestrated the brutal act. The victim’s mutilated corpse was discovered near her home, with her right ear, eye, breast, and scalp removed.
