Kaduna bombing: Villagers sue FG, demand N33bn compensation

Residents of Tudun Biri in Kaduna State are seeking redress for the tragic incident that occurred in their community. Following the bomb attack that claimed the lives of over 100 villagers, the affected community is taking legal action against the Federal Government. The Nigerian Army, according to the Kaduna State Government, claimed responsibility for the aerial bombardment.

In response to this unfortunate incident, a representative of the villagers, Dalhatu Salihu, has filed a lawsuit on behalf of his kinsmen at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. The lawsuit, presented by lawyer Mukhtar Usman, demands a compensation of N33 billion for the victims’ families. The legal action also calls for a public apology to be published in at least three national newspapers.

The relief sought by the villagers includes a declaration that the aerial bombardment on Tudun Biri violated the victims’ fundamental rights to life, as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution and the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights. The legal action asserts that the incident was illegal, unlawful, and unconstitutional, holding the Chief of Army Staff and other relevant authorities accountable for the tragedy.

President Bola Tinubu has already initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drone bombing, emphasizing the need to identify those responsible and ensure justice is served. The legal proceedings aim to enforce the fundamental rights of the survivors and bring attention to the devastating consequences of the incident on Tudun Biri’s residents.
