Ibadan Residents Protest Soaring Food Prices, Economic Hardship

In Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, residents took to the streets on Monday morning to voice their grievances regarding the increasing cost of food items and the prevailing economic challenges.

The protest, held in the Mokola area of Ibadan, saw a gathering of young people carrying placards to express their frustrations. Their voices echoed as they conveyed their dissatisfaction, with videos of the demonstration quickly spreading on social media platforms, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), under the hashtag #Enoughisenough.

The placards bore messages demanding an end to food price hikes and inflation, highlighting the plight of the impoverished, and urging Tinubu not to forget his promises, reflecting the sentiments of the demonstrators.

Although the rally remained peaceful, armed police officers were stationed at the protest site. Their presence followed a warning issued by the State Police Command the previous day, stressing a zero-tolerance policy towards any disruptions of peace during protests in the state.

The protest in Oyo State mirrors similar demonstrations in Kano State, Niger State, and other regions across the country, all expressing discontent with the economic challenges stemming from the removal of petrol subsidies, food inflation, and the overall high cost of living.
