Truck crushes policeman, injures five

A police officer, who has not yet been identified, was crushed to death by a truck owned by the Dangote Cement Factory at the Saiten Petrol Station on the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State.

In a statement on Wednesday, Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, stated that a crash that occurred late Tuesday resulted in at least five individuals sustaining different levels of injuries.

According to her, a total of nine vehicles were involved in the crash, namely a Dangote truck, a tipper, a yellow bus, an armoured tank, a Toyota RAV4 and three motorcycles.

Okpe reported that a total of eight victims were involved in the crash, consisting of seven male adults and one female adult.

One person lost their life, while two others were rescued without any injuries. The accident occurred when the Dangote truck driver, who was speeding, tried to pass another vehicle.

The driver then lost control of the truck, resulting in a collision with other vehicles and ultimately falling into the river. Okpe stated that the collision caused the Toyota RAV4 to burst into flames.

He added that a fire extinguisher was obtained from a nearby filling station to put out the fire.
