Three injured as gunmen attack commercial vehicle in Ekiti

On Monday evening, passengers in a commercial vehicle carrying around six people narrowly avoided being shot dead by gunmen who opened fire on their vehicle along Ado-Akure Road.

According to sources, the event occurred on the road’s Ikere-Iju axis. The shooters, who numbered around seven, set up an ambush for approaching automobiles.

Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Ekiti State Police Command, acknowledged the attack on the travelers but stated that it was an attempted armed robbery.

“It was not a kidnapping incident,” Abutu added, adding that the act is still being investigated as an attempted armed robbery.

“Approximately three people were injured in the attack, and we have received no reports of any of the travelers being kidnapped.” Those who were injured are being treated in hospitals, and an inquiry has been launched as instructed by the state Commissioner of Police, Dare Ogundare, to guarantee that those responsible are brought to justice.”
