Court remands 20-year-old man for kidnapping woman in Ondo

Mohammed Suleiman, 20-year-old, was sent to Olokuta Correctional Center by an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for suspected armed robbery and kidnapping.

Suleiman, who was arraigned on Tuesday, is accused of committing the crime between March 20 and April 4, 2023, at around 11:00 a.m. in Owo, Ondo State.

Augustine  Omhenemhen, the police prosecutor, stated the court that the defendant and those at large plotted to conduct felony to wit kidnapping.

He said that the defendant kidnapped Odeh Regina and carried her to a forest reserve along the power line route in Owo, forcing her family to pay N300,000 ransom.

He further said that the defendant robbed one Emmanuel Lawrence of N140,000 while equipped with cutlasses, pistols and other deadly weapons.

The crime committed is against and punished under Sections 516(A), 1(a&b), 6(b), 1&2(a&b) of the Armed Robbery Prohibited Act laws of Ondo State Nigeria 2004.

The prosecution asked the court to hold the prisoner at the Correctional Center until the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) issued his advice.

G.A Oluwatuase, the defendant’s defense lawyer, requested that the court allow him to review the case file in order to determine if the defendant should be remanded.

Magistrate Yomi Adesoji ordered the defendant’s remand in Olokuta Correctional Center pending the DPP”s advice in her judgment.
