The tension between the USA and China peaked on Wednesday after China announced on Wednesday that it will impose visa restrictions on officials from the United States who “behave badly” on Tibet-related issues, in retaliation for US curbs announced a day before.
The US had said it was restricting visas to Chinese officials deemed to be substantially involved in the exclusion of foreigners from Tibet.
Analysts have described the situation between the two economic powerhouses as some sorts of cold war beginning in 2017 following the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
Trump imposed tariffs on Chinese imports and blocked off deals involving tech giant Huawei. The US president has constantly accused officials of the Asian nation of telling the world less than they were aware of concerning the coronavirus pandemic. He also placed visa restrictions on Chinese nationals, banning them from coming into the US earlier in the year following the outbreak of the pandemic.
China is the biggest trading partner of the USA.
