Wike to Ganduje: Forget It, Dollars Won’t Work In Edo Guber Election

The Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, who also doubles as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign committee for the Edo governorship has launched a searing attack on his Kano state counterpart, Abdullahi Ganduje, after the latter threatened to isolate him until after the guber poll billed for September 19.

Ganduje is the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council for Edo governorship race.

Speaking at the inauguration of the PDP campaign team in Abuja, the Rivers state governor assured the party that his team would not be intimidated.

According to the Rivers governor, Ganduje’s “dollars” would have no place in the battle field in September.

In 2018, videos of Ganduje pocketing a stash of dollars he allegedly received as a bribe from a contractor went viral.

Wike said, “yesterday, I was told and today I read on the pages of newspapers that one Governor Ganduje said that he is going to isolate me until the election is over,” the governor said.

“If Nigeria is supposed to be a country, who is supposed to be isolated? A man who pockets dollars in ‘babanriga’ from contractors is not isolated and you say that me should be isolated. In this country, where are we heading to?

“Let me tell you why they [APC] made Ganduje the chairman of the campaign council – it is because of the dollars they saw.

“What he doesn’t understand is that we are from the Niger Delta; we shall chop his dollar and we will chop him to a coma. So, Ganduje, your dollar will not work in Edo State, we have integrity in our party.”

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo who recently decamped to the PDP after he was disqualified from seeking a second term on the platform of the APC will be slugging it out with his 2016 rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu who incidentally, would fly APC’s flag in the contest.
