U-17 Women’s Team, the Flamingos, Triumph in Qualifier Opener with a 6-0 Victory

The Nigeria U-17 Women’s national team dominated Central African Republic with a resounding 6-0 victory in the first leg of their second qualification round for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Harmony Chidi and Shakirat Moshood both scored twice, while Prisca Nwachukwu and Edidiong Etim also contributed to the impressive performance at the Stade Omnisport Duoala.

Taking control early in the match, Harmony Chidi opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Nwachukwu Prisca extended the lead in the 38th minute, and Moshood and Chidi added two more goals before halftime, securing a 4-0 lead for Nigeria. In the second half, Edidiong netted the fifth goal, and Shakirat Moshood completed the rout with a spectacular free-kick strike from 30 yards out.

The second leg is set to take place in Abuja on Saturday, February 10, 2024. Following this commanding victory, the Flamingos position themselves favorably for the third round of the qualifying campaign. In the next round, Nigeria will face the winner of the match between Burkina Faso and Guinea.

Africa is slated to have three representatives at the 2024 World Cup in the Dominican Republic, scheduled between October 16 and November 3.
