NDLEA Kano State Arrests 319, Seizes 4.7 Tonnes of Drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State apprehended 319 suspects and confiscated 4.7 tonnes of illegal drugs between January and March 2024.

Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, the NDLEA Commander in Kano State, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kano.

He mentioned that among the suspects were 14 females and 305 males.

During the mentioned period, the total seized drugs amounted to over four tonnes of illicit substances, comprising 2.3kg of marijuana and 2.4kg of psychotropic substances. Additionally, the operatives confiscated more than five million tramadol pills and 1.9kg of other hazardous substances.

Within these three months, the command achieved 33 convictions of individuals involved in drug trafficking and related offenses. Furthermore, they facilitated the rehabilitation of 26 drug addicts, processed 38 visa clearances, and conducted 30 drug integrity tests for individuals and members of the state Emirate Council.

The commander highlighted that the command dismantled 39 illicit drug joints acting as centers for drug activities in the state.

Idris-Ahmad assured the residents of Kano of comprehensive measures to ensure a peaceful and drug-free holiday during the forthcoming Eid-El-Fitr celebration.

“The command is committed to maintaining law and order during this festive period and to prevent the spread of illicit drugs in the community, Idris-Ahmad stated.

He reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to fostering a drug-free society and ensuring the safety and welfare of the people of Kano.
