At least 51 individuals suspected to be members of a highway gang harassing truck drivers along key expressways in Lagos, including Apapa/Oshodi and Lagos/Badagry, were apprehended in an operation led by Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye.
Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Jubril Gawat, confirmed the arrests, noting that the suspects utilized coercive tactics to extort money from truck drivers, claiming affiliation with the dissolved Lagos State Parks and Garages Agency.
The operation comes after the state government dissolved its Park and Garages Committee in September 2023, aiming to streamline activities under the coordination of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) across motor parks and garages in Lagos.
