The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is advocating for the establishment of a joint task force to enforce the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Act of 2018 in Nigeria.
During the 5th-anniversary commemoration of the Disability Act in Abuja, organized by the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), Deputy Commandant Patience Ogabanya-Andepu emphasized the necessity for security agencies, mandated with enforcement, to collaborate through a joint task force.
She highlighted the importance of training officers, especially those handling disability-related matters, and stressed the need to coordinate efforts with other agencies to ensure nationwide compliance with the law.
Ogabanya-Andepu believes that creating a joint task force would provide guidance, maintain momentum, and uphold principles to foster a disability-inclusive society. The Director of Gender and Inclusivity, Mrs. Dorothy Bello, praised CCD for creating a platform for stakeholders to share experiences and propose strategies for compliance with the law, suggesting that such periodic meetings serve as reminders for fostering an inclusive society.
