Abia State Police Commissioner, Mr. Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, visited the headquarters of All Breaking News (ABN) on Azikiwe Road Umuahia to assess the station after a recent incident. Earlier, on Tuesday, some policemen had entered the station’s live studio to arrest an individual.
The Abia CP, accompanied by senior police officers, apologized for the officers’ behavior and indicated that the matter was resolved amicably through discussions with the ABN Director.
A press release from the Abia Command’s PPRO, Maureen Chinaka, stated that preliminary investigations revealed unprofessional conduct by the police officers during the arrest. While there is no law prohibiting officers from making an arrest in a studio, the circumstances of the specific case did not justify such actions.
The CP conducted an on-the-spot assessment, apologized to ABN, and assured that the officers would face disciplinary action if found guilty during their orderly room trial. The statement emphasized the commitment of the Abia State Police Command to maintaining a professionally competent, service-driven, rule-of-law compliant, and people-friendly force.
