Strike: SSANU, NASU, NAATS Block UNILAG Gate

Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists of the University of Lagos held a peaceful protest at the school’s gate on Wednesday.

They obstructed vehicular movement and disrupted traffic flow in the area.

The protesters sang and carried various placards to express their grievances against the Federal Government for withholding their salaries.

For nearly a month, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU had been urging the government to include them in the payment of the withheld salaries, which had begun for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in February.

Their salaries were withheld when the former President Muhammadu Buhari administration invoked a ‘No Work, No Pay policy’ against ASUU, SSANU, and NAATS, who had gone on strikes lasting eight months, four months, and five-and-a-half months respectively in 2022.

NAATS has also joined the strike, beginning their three-day warning strike today.
