ASUU Rejects Advertorial For UniAbuja’s Vice Chancellor Position

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Abuja branch, has expressed its rejection of the advertisement for the institution’s Vice Chancellor position.

The current management, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, recently placed an advertisement for the vacant Vice Chancellor position in a national daily. However, Dr. Sylvanus Ugoh, the chairperson of the ASUU branch at the University, stated during a press conference in Abuja that the Union finds the advertisement unacceptable.

According to Dr. Ugoh, the advertorial, part of the process to appoint a new Vice Chancellor, goes against relevant laws. He warned potential applicants to refrain from applying until due process is followed in the recruitment of a new VC.

The decision was made during a congress held on March 19, 2024, in Abuja, where the Union reviewed urgent issues concerning the University’s administration under Prof. Na’Allah.

ASUU expressed concerns over the Federal Government’s actions affecting the University’s operations negatively. They highlighted issues that have disrupted the academic environment and traditions at the University of Abuja, urging for adherence to proper processes in appointing a new Vice Chancellor.
