Okuama: Former DSS Director Urges Police, DSS Involvement

Former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mike Ejiofor, is urging an independent investigation into the killing of 17 military personnel in Delta State’s Okuama community. He believes an unbiased inquiry could implicate some Very Important Personalities (VIPs).

Ejiofor, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, questioned why a lieutenant colonel, two majors, a captain, and 13 other military personnel were deployed for a land dispute resolution. He suggested that the federal and state governments should collaborate to form a high-powered, independent investigative team.

According to Ejiofor, the involvement of a lieutenant colonel and two majors suggests a deeper complexity that needs thorough investigation. He emphasized that the Nigerian Army, being a party to the incident, should not lead the investigation.

He advocated for a swift establishment of an independent panel by the Federal Government and Delta State Government to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deployment of the military personnel. This, he believes, is crucial to getting to the bottom of the matter and revealing the truth behind the tragic incident in the oil-rich South-South state.
