The traditional chiefs responsible for selecting the Olubadan of Ibadanland have agreed to enthrone Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the 43rd monarch, according to a statement released on Friday.
The decision follows the Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration, which states that the most senior high chief from either the civilian or military side should take the throne in turn. The late Oba Mahood Lekan Balogun, the immediate past Olubadan, was from the civilian lineage, making Oba Olakulehin, the most senior high chief in the Balogun (military) line, the next in line.
The kingmakers, who are also members of the Olubadan-in-Council, ratified Olakulehin’s appointment during a meeting held at Mapo Hall on Friday. He was nominated by the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe, at a meeting summoned by the Otun Olubadan, Senator Rasheed Ladoja.
