NNPCL Partners With TotalEnergies to Adopt Methane Detection Technology

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TotalEnergies to adopt and implement the Airborne Ultralight Spectrometer for Environmental Application (AUSEA) methane detection technology in all its upstream operations.

The spokesperson for NNPCL, Olufemi O. Soneye, stated that the agreement, facilitated by the company’s participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, will allow NNPCL to gauge methane emissions from its upstream operations sites. The technology aims to aid in assessing emission levels and implementing measures to address global warming and climate change.

The MoU was signed by NNPCL’s Executive Vice President, Upstream, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, and Managing Director of TotalEnergies EP Nigeria, Matthieu Bouyer, in the presence of NNPC Ltd.’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, and TotalEnergies’ Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Pouyanné.

Kyari praised TotalEnergies as a reliable partner, while Pouyanné commended NNPCL’s successful transition to a limited liability company and expressed commitment to responsible hydrocarbon production.
