2024 budget: MDAs to spend N14bn to buy computers, N28bn for software

The Federal Government has allocated a budget of more than N14.39 billion for the procurement of computers, including laptops and desktops, across more than 100 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in the fiscal year 2024.

Additionally, an estimated N28 billion has been allocated for the acquisition of computer software by over 90 MDAs, as revealed by TheCable Index analysis of the 2024 budget.

Computer software refers to a collection of instructions, data, or programs that enable the operation and execution of specific tasks on computers.

The 2024 budget proposal, amounting to N27 trillion, passed the second reading in both the upper and lower parliament on December 1, 2023. Subsequently, President Bola Tinubu presented the appropriation bill to a joint session of the national assembly in November. However, the final approval of the national assembly is still pending.

To be specific, the 2024 budget includes provisions for 109 MDAs to spend a total of N14,397,404,379 on the procurement of laptops and desktops. Furthermore, 96 MDAs are expected to allocate N28,369,134,635 for the acquisition of computer software.
