The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Uyo Branch, awarded over N1.7 million to 15 outstanding but financially challenged students during its Heroes’ Day Celebration.
The union also honored past leaders who navigated challenging periods. ASUU’s National President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, applauded the awardees’ commitment and criticized alleged unjust employment practices by vice chancellors. He stressed the need to reverse the misuse of university employment as a constituency project.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, praised ASUU’s selfless service. The student beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the financial support.
Notable figures honored for their selfless service, include Dr. Etop Ndiyo, Prof. Desmond Wilson, Prof. Edet Akpan, Prof. Joseph Ushie, Prof. Aniesua Essiet, and Prof. Ashong Ashong.
