A suspected kidnap kingpin was apprehended by Benue police command operatives, who also killed a known armed robber in two separate operations in the state’s Zaki Biam and Taraku towns, respectively, in Ukum and Gwer East Local Government Areas, LGAs.
According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, the kidnap kingpin was apprehended fews days ago after information was obtained that he was threatening to abduct a businessman from Zaki Biam.
Anene said; “Information was received that a kidnapper was threatening one Mr. Innocent of Zaki-Biam town with kidnapping and killing unless he paid N5 million into an account.” The victim sent N500,000 to the account supplied by the abductor, but the threat remained.
“A police investigation resulted in the arrest of Elijah Elisha. “During a check of the suspect’s home, a police uniform and military camouflage trousers were discovered, and the suspect confessed to the crime.”
The notorious robbery suspect, on the other hand, was shot dead during an alleged robbery operation in Ankyoor village.
Anene also said; “Operation Zenda JTF men were on routine patrol along Taraku-Otukpo road when they came across an armed robbery incident at Ankyoor village.” The syndicate also engaged the police unit in a gunfight.
“As a result, one of the robbers was shot and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.” The body was taken to the hospital mortuary, while other gang members fled with bullet wounds.
“One locally made pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm live ammunition and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the suspect.” The investigation to apprehend the fleeing individuals is underway.”
