A group of 16 Indian sailors have been released from detention in Nigeria after being held for nine months.
They were detained and prosecuted, along with others, for involvement in crude oil theft.
The sailors and their crude carrier, MT Heroic Idun, pleaded guilty and agreed to make restitution to the Federal Government in exchange for a plea bargain agreement.
They were released by the government on May 27, 2023, after being brought back to Nigeria for prosecution on three charges in November 2022.
