Gunmen have killed five people, including two policemen and a university lecturer, in two separate attacks in Benue State.
The incidents happened at Yelwata and Jootar, Mbaterem in the Guma and Ukum Local Government Areas of the state respectively on Thursday.
At Yelwata area of Guma local government, two policemen were reportedly killed by gunmen and their guns taken away by their assailants.
The second incident, which happened at Jootar Mbaterem in Mbayenge council ward in Ukum local government area, left three people, including a university lecturer, dead.
It was gathered that the incident happened around 7:00pm on Thursday at a drinking joint in the community.
The immediate past chairman of Ukum local government, Steve Ayua, confirmed the killing of the university lecturer and two others in the council.
“It is true, the incident happened,” Ayua said.
However, the State Police Command spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, could only confirm the incident in the Guma LGA where two policemen were killed.
