Insecurity: ISWAP set ablaze houses, loot shops in Brono

Militants from Boko Haram’s Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jam’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihd, stormed a community in Borno State, destroying buildings and looting items from shops.

It was gathered that the terrorists attacked Komdi village in the Damboa Local Government Area of the state on Monday night, razing many houses.

A security source said, “the insurgents in large numbers arrived in the village in pickup vans and motorcycles at about 5 pm, shooting heavy artillery.”

People were forced to run for their lives while others remained indoors as the firing continued.

The source added that the troops overpowered the terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to flee.

ISWAP has been consolidating its influence in areas around Lake Chad since the death of JAS commander Abubakar Shekau.

Wali Sani Shuwaram, 45, was recently appointed as the new Leader (Wali) of ISWAP in Lake Chad.

The sect’s membership has swollen with the defection of hundreds of Boko Haram fighters under Shekau.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has repeatedly claimed that insurgency had been largely defeated and frequently underplays any losses.

The terror group has killed approximately 50,000 people and displaced millions of people, mostly in the states of Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe.
