Ivorian President, Alassane Quattara, inaugurates new embassy in Abuja

The President of Cote D’Ivoire, Alassane Quattara, inaugurated the country’s newly completed embassy in Abuja at the weekend.

Quattara, who is in the country for the 60th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) inaugurated the embassy located in the Diplomatic Drive, Central Area, Abuja.

Recall that the foundation and stone-laying ceremony of the Chancellery was laid in December 2018.

According to the current Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire to Nigeria, Kalilou Traore, the building consists of eight ambassador’s offices, 15 Agents’ offices, three large meeting rooms and a Presidential Suite.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kandia Camara, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Diaspora, mentioned that the new building is a prospect for cooperation between the two countries.

Camara said with more than 860 billion CFA francs in global trade, Nigeria is the first African trading partner of Côte d’Ivoire.

She expressed the hope that the building will also play a connecting role between our country and ECOWAS, further said that the embassy will constitute a strong foundation for the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries as well as for exchanges with Nigeria, ECOWAS and all partners, while being the House of Côte d’Ivoire.

The Nigerian Government was represented at the ceremony by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohammed Mahmoud Abubakar, and ECOWAS by the President of the Commission, Jean Claude Brou.
