Again, Court extends order stopping DSS, AGF from arresting Sunday Igboho, 8 aides released

A High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has extended an interim order stopping the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, from arresting, killing, or harassing popular Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho.

The court, presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola on Monday, also extended the order stopping the DSS and AGF from freezing the accounts of the embattled activist, who is currently facing trial in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

This was disclosed to newsmen on Monday by the lead counsel for Igboho, Yomi Aliyu, after the ruling.

He said, “The judge said the interim order of injunction should continue until September 7 when we will go back to court.”

Recall that Justice Akintola had on August 4, 2021, ordered the secret police and the AGF not to arrest Igboho or freeze his bank accounts.

The lead counsel to Malami, E. Simeon, had appealed the court to vacate its earlier restraining judgment but Aliyu said he had filed for an extension of the order on August 26, 2021, therefore, the new application should not be granted.

Ruling on Monday, Justice Akintola subsequently adjourned the case till September 7, 2021, for hearing.

Also, the Department of State Services has released 8 of the 12 aides of Igboho, who have been in their custody for the past 61 days.

The lawyer to the aides, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the secret police released the 8 aides on Monday.
