A joint force of security operatives thwarted an attack on Orlu Divisional Police Headquarters in Imo State by unknown gunmen on Thursday night.
The operatives killed about 8 of the hoodlums and recovered 7 vehicles the attackers came in for the operation.
It was gathered that there was a gun battle between the gunmen and the security operatives, which lasted for several hours.
The military reportedly sent reinforcement from the 34 artillery brigade in Obinze, Owerri, which helped the operatives overpower the hoodlums.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident to newsmen, adding that the corpses of the hoodlums and their vehicles were taken to the state police command headquarters in Owerri.
A resident of the area, who preferred to be anonymous, told newsmen that “we slept with our hearts in our hands last night”.
He added that an Armored Personnel Carrier was allegedly set ablaze at Umuna junction in Orlu town.
