Armed robbers attack bullion van, steal money in Ondo

Some men suspected to be armed robbers attacked a bullion van on Tursday and shot three persons at Elemosho Village along Akure-Ondo Expressway in Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It was reported that the bullion van, which belongs to a commercial bank, was heading towards Akure, the state capital, at about 5 pm when the robbers waylaid and attacked it.

The robbers reportedly carted away an undisclosed sum of money.

Three people were shot during the operation, which lasted for about 20 minutes.

An eyewitness said one of the victims was alive and taken to the hospital while it was unclear if the other 2 survived.

He said, “The robbers came to the scene in a Lexus car and waylaid the convoy of the bullion van. They vandalized two out of the three vehicles in the convoy with bullets. They shot three people before they ran away into the bush. One of the victims was alive while it was not sure whether the other two survived it.”

The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network, Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, who confirmed the incident, said his men took one of the people that were shot to the hospital.

Adeleye said, “When we got the information, my men moved in there and met one of the persons that were shot at the scene and we have taken him to the hospital.”
