Unknown gunmen have shot a police officer, who tried to thwart the abduction of some residents of Tungan-Maje community in Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja.
Speaking to newsmen, a resident of the area identified as Ibrahim Saidu, said the gunmen in their numbers invaded the community and engaged the police and vigilante in a shootout.
He said the gunmen first attacked residents of Anguwar Samu in Tungan-Maje and kidnapped two persons after an exchange of gunfire that lasted over an hour.
Saidu said, “The entire residents of Anguwar Samu were gripped with fear because of the gunshots but unfortunately, they succeeded in abducting two people.”
He added that after the police officers at the scene were overpowered by the gunmen, they proceeded to the New Poultry area of the council where they also abducted two residents.
