Buhari expresses sorrow over 20 school children killed in Niamey fire outbreak

President Muhammed Buhari has expressed deep sorrow and commiserated with the government and people of Niger Republic over the lives lost in a fire that engulfed a primary school in Niamey.

20 children were said to been killed in the inferno.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, titled ‘President Buhari: Niamey fire incident extremely horrific’, Buhari was quoted to have expressed “deep sorrow” over the incident in a message to the president of Niger Republic, Mohammed Bazoum.

Part of the statement read, “On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, we commiserate with our brotherly neighbors on this tragic loss.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, families and communities affected by this unfortunate incident. Wishing quick recovery to those who were injured.”

Recall that on Tuesday, over 20 pre-school children aged between three and five were burnt in a fire outbreak at their school on the outskirts of the country’s capital Niamey.

However, the cause of the fire is still unknown as investigations are still ongoing.
