The Katsina Central Market has been razed down by fire.
The fire reportedly started early Monday morning around 7 am. The cause of the fire is still yet to be ascertained, but it reportedly started from the section where foodstuff sellers and grinders are in the market, with some traders alleging that the fire was caused by the smoking of cigarettes.
The Federal Fire Service as of the time of filing this report was still fighting to put off the fire as properties worth billions of naira were already destroyed.
The traders urged the government and other philanthropists to come to their aid as the fire had destroyed their sources of livelihood.
The Governor of the state, Aminu Masari has also reportedly visited the scene of the fire incident, expressing his sympathies to the victims. While assessing the level of destruction, He said the fire was one of the worst in the history of the state.
The governor, however, added that the disaster was also an opportunity for the government to address the infrastructural deficit in the market.
He said; “We will address the needs of the market and see how government can assist the victims.”
