One killed in clash as youths set Police station ablaze in Imo

One man was reportedly killed on Tuesday when youths of Isinweke community in Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State clashed with the police.

The furious youths also reportedly burnt down the divisional police station.

According to sources, the clash started when policemen attached to the area killed two siblings in their house.

In the process of shielding themselves from the youths, the police allegedly shot into the air and a stray bullet hit a man who later died in the hospital.

The death of the young man further angered the youths who assembled and went ahead to set the divisional police station at Isinweke in Imo State ablaze. Two policemen were said to be wounded with machetes during the clash.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident, saying the two injured policemen went for an arrest when they were attacked and that the youths also reportedly freed a suspect in the process.

Ikeokwu further stated that policemen had been deployed to the station and Nasiru Muhammed the state commissioner of police has commanded a full investigation into the matter.

The police PRO stood his ground on the fact that the shooting was not deliberate. He said a shot was fired to drive away the furious youths which regrettably led to the stray bullet hitting the victim.
