NDLEA arrest 70-year-old drug trafficker who supplies to Bandits

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Mohammed Rabiu, a 70-year-old drug trafficker, who supplies illicit substances to Boko Haram insurgents and bandits in Niger state.

Rabiu, a foreigner who hails from Dallawa town, state of Agadez, Niger Republic, was arrested on Thursday, 26th of March, 2021 with 10 pallets of skunk in Jebba.

He confessed that he brought hides and skin from Niger to sell in Lagos and realized the sum of N300,000, used the money to purchase 10 skunks at the rate of N25,000 each.

This was made known in a statement released by the Agency’s  Director of Media, Femi Babafemi, who said investigation reveals that he was on his way to the Niger Republic through the North-West when he was intercepted in Niger state where he sells illicit substances to bandits.

According to the Commander, Niger state Command of the NDLEA, Aloye Isaac, his arrest is a confirmation of the fact earlier stated by the NDLEA Chairman that there is a connection between drug abuse and insecurity in some parts of the country.

Also, Ondo state NDLEA operatives who were supported by military personnel have located and destroyed 95 hectares of three large cannabis farms located at Ogbese forest.

The Ondo state Commander of the Agency, Haruna Gagara mentioned no suspects were arrested during the operation but the investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend owners of the farm.

Similarly, the Kogi State Command of the Agency has also intercepted and seized 116.1 Kilograms of cannabis at the patrol point in the Okene-Lokoja expressway.

Sulaiman said, the suspect, stated during interrogation that he got the illicit drug from Edo state and he was taking it to Kaduna state when he was arrested.

The state commander of the Agency, Alfred Adewumi in a statement said that the drug was concealed in sacks of chicken wastes loaded in a Mercedes-Benz 814 Truck with Registration number: Taraba XA 366 ARD

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd) reacted to the successful operations in Niger, Ondo, and Kogi states commending the Commanders, men, and officers of the three commands for their commitment and consistency towards ending the drug menace in their areas of responsibility.
