Gunmen launch fresh attack in Kaduna, kill six-year-old girl, six others

Gunmen have reportedly attacked Gora Gan community in Zango-Kataf Local Area of Kaduna state, leaving seven people dead including a six-year-old girl and a 70-year-old man. The incident is said to have occurred at the early hours of Thursday night.

Findings reveal that four among those killed during the attack are members of the same family.

An estimate of thirteen houses and two shops were burnt down by the gunmen who launched the attack and shot sporadically in the community. A speculative number of persons also sustained injuries during the attack.

A government statement confirmed and criticized the attack on Friday.

Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, released a statement instructing security operatives to conduct an investigation on the shooting.

The statement titled, ‘KDSG condemns attack on Gora Gan community as El-Rufai directs immediate relief intervention’ reads in part, “The security agencies carrying out internal security operations in parts of southern Kaduna State have reported that Gora Gan community in Zangon Kataf local government came under attack on Thursday night.

“Security agencies, comprising the military and police, reported that Gora Gan community was attacked on several fronts, including the market area and houses stretching towards the Tudun Wada area of Gora Gan.

“Troops of Operation Safe Haven, Special Forces of the Defence Headquarters, and police personnel are trailing the attackers.

“Governor Nasir El-Rufai has condemned the killings of innocent citizens as barbaric and inhuman.”

“The Governor has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to take inventory of the damages incurred and provide relief materials with immediate effect.

“The Kaduna State Government has also received a report of a sporadic shooting on the Fadan Kagoma-Kwoi Road in Jema’a local government. A driver was shot but has now been stabilized.”
