Federal ministers from the south-west region of the country are demanding a holistic investigation of the role of the military in the killing of unarmed protesters in Lekki on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. According to Amnesty International, at least 12 protesters were shot dead.
The ministers were directed by the presidency to relocate to their home states to douse the tension created by the #ENDSARS protests which is aimed at ending police brutality and exploitation.
The ministers presented their report to the federal executive council (FEC) this Wednesday. They want the federal government to investigate the circumstances that led to the invasion of the protest venue by military personnel who shot and killed youths participating in a protest adjudged by several observers and commentators to have been peaceful.
Former US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton and former vice president, Joe Biden all spoke out to condemn the massacre.
