Buhari: Akeredolu has done well to deserve a second term, calls him a “good ambassador” of the APC

Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari has announced that he is confident of a Rotimi Akeredolu’s victory in the Ondo state guber poll on Saturday.

Akerodolu, flag bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had earlier warned that defeating Eyitayo Jegede, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may not be easy.

The president through his Twitter handle did however express confidence that the APC candidate will emerge victorious at the poll.

Buhari stated that he is proud of the governor’s achievements in office and insisted that he deserves to be re-elected.

He commended the Ondo chief executive for his resources management capabilities and invited other officials of the party to see him as a model.

“I have no doubt that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is a good brand for the APC to market. I am particularly delighted by his ingenious approach to governance. His performance within the limits of available resources is endearing,” he said.

“Governor Akeredolu deserves to be re-elected to consolidate the good work he commenced in his first term. I am not just proud of his achievements; I am confident he will enjoy the mandate of the good people of Ondo State for the second term.”

Saturday’s election will in some ways be a repeat of the 2016 race because the main contenders remain unchanged. Jegede, PDP’s flag bearer in the Saturday race was also the party’s candidate in 2016- ditto for Akeredolu who ran on the APC platform
