In Anger, Governor Wike Pulls Out of Edo PDP Reconciliation Committee

Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has announced that he will no longer be participating in the activities of reconciliation team set up to harmonise the contending parties hoping to win the PDP’s guber ticket in the primary election billed for Thursday, June 25, 2020.

Wike accused some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP of being sycophants and tax collectors who would never tell the truth.

The governor made his position known in a message shared on his Twitter page. Wike accused the party’s NWC of not carrying every stakeholder along, contrary to his advice but have instead resorted to media blackmail.

According to the governor, “I told them that in Edo State, we must handle the issue carefully and carry everybody along. They must respect human beings and not behave like tax collectors.

“They said because an order was obtained from a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, then I am responsible.

“I have had sleepless nights to resolve the issue in Edo State. The governors of Edo, Adamawa, and Delta states know what I have done to resolve the issues in Edo State.”

The governor said that he will not allow himself to be rubbished by anyone, insisting that a strong hatred for injustice drives his politics and compels him to speak out in national issues.

The Edo governorship election is billed for Saturday, September 19 2020. The PDP governorship candidate in 2016, Osagie Ize-Iyamu will fly the APC’s flag in the contest while his main challenger would hopefully emerge after PDP’s internal selection process tomorrow.
