FIRS To Embark On Nationwide VAT, WHT Compliance Monitoring Exercise

The Federal Inland Revenue Service FIRS has announced that it will embark on a nationwide Value Added Tax VAT and Withholding Tax compliance monitoring exercise.FIRS Executive Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, stating that the exercise will commence on Monday, October 23. Adedeji said the exercise is aimed at ensuring that taxpayers are complying with their tax obligations and remitting the correct amount of VAT and WHT to the government.

Abia Destroys 160 Brothels

Abia State Government says it has converted the cattle market at Lokpanta in Umunneochi LGA to a daily non-residential market to stem the tide of insecurity along the Lokpanta-Umunneochi-Uturu axis of the state. Briefing newsmen in Umuahia Monday evening, the Security Adviser to the state governor, Navy Commander MacDonald Uba, disclosed that the state government also destroyed a total of 160 brothel rooms in the market suspected to harbour kidnappers and other criminals in the area.The state governor had earlier launched ‘Operation Crush’ to stem the tide of kidnapping in the state.

Appeal Court Sacks Adamawa North Senator Abbo

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has sacked Senator Ishaku Abbo, the lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in the National Assembly. The court voided the election of Abbo of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in favour of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Amos Yohanna.

35-year-old Daniel Noboa Wins Ecuador Presidential Election

Daniel Noboa is set to become Ecuador’s youngest-ever president as he defeated leftist politician Luisa González in elections on Sunday, the head of the electoral authority CNE has said. Thirty-five-year-old Noboa of the center-right National Democratic Action alliance won González, from the camp of ex-president Rafael Correa, by 52.30 percent with more than 90 percent of votes counted. 

Super Eagles Thrash 10-man Mozambique In 5-goal Thriller

Goals by Terem Moffi, Frank Onyeka, and Moses Simon steered Nigeria to a 3-2 victory over 10-man Mozambique in their international friendly encounter in Portimäo, Portugal, on Monday. The win in the Portuguese city was the first for the Super Eagles in a friendly match in 55 months, back to March 2019 when Paul Onuachu’s first-minute goal accounted for the defeat of seven-time African champions Egypt at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
