Yoruba Nation: Evacuate all Yorubas in the North – Arewa Youths to Sunday Igboho

Following Sunday Igboho’s call for a “Yoruba Nation” on Wednesday the 17th of March, 2021, the Arewa Youth Assembly has also ordered the evacuation of Yorubas living in the Northern part of the country within 72 hours, saying failure to do so would force their hands to take the personal responsibility of ensuring their return back home.

“We are hereby giving him the ultimatum of 72 hours to move his people out or we will be forced to take necessary actions by personally taking the responsibility of getting his people back home.”

It will be recalled that Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho had on Wednesday the 17th of March, 2021 in a press briefing in Ibadan, Oyo State declared the South-Western region a “Yoruba Nation”, saying the region is no longer interested in being part of Nigeria.

He further called on all Yorubas living in the Northern part of the country to return home before war breaks out as it is high time for Yorubas to declare a sovereign nation.

Reacting to this, the Arewa Youth Assembly stated that even though they are law-abiding citizens, they would not fold their hands and watch an individual who has no regard for the laws governing the people threaten the lives and property of northerners living in the South-west.

“This is despite the fact that the constitution of the country has made it crystal clear that any Nigerian can live in any part of the country irrespective of his or her religious and tribal placements. Since it is Igboho who wants his people out of the North to form the Yoruba nation, we will make it easy for him by asking Mr. Igboho to provide a means of transportation to convey his people to the southwest. We have kept quiet for the sake of peace and the respect of the laws of our country, but as Mr. Igboho rightly said, enough is enough.”

Mohammed Salihu Danladi, speaker of the Arewa Youth Assembly added in the statement that the preservation of the Nigerian entity is non-negotiable, calling on all stakeholders to reject anything that will cause division in the country.

The group, therefore, called on the northern elders and traditional rulers, to support the evacuation of all Yorubas from all northern states including the FCT in a peaceful manner without the loss of lives and the destruction of properties.
