Terrorists in North East Avoiding Confrontation, Using IEDs

Maj. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, the Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, has reported a degradation of terrorist activities in the North East region.

Shuaibu noted that terrorists are now avoiding direct confrontations with the military forces in the field, which has led them to rely more on Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Speaking at the commencement of an IED awareness and detection training for the Civilian Joint Task Force in Maiduguri, Borno State, Shuaibu emphasized the importance of this training.

“The increasing use of IEDs by terrorists underscores the significance of this training. It aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to search for, detect, identify, and mark IEDs for their safety during operations,” he explained.

Shuaibu stressed the ongoing necessity to prevent the hindrance of troops’ movements and citizens’ freedom by terrorist-planted IEDs. He reiterated the importance of practical training and assured participants of receiving the required equipment to effectively carry out their duties by the end of the program.

Earlier, Brig.-Gen. AO Kazeem, the Commander of the 47 Engineering Brigade in Maiduguri, highlighted that the training course aligns with the Theatre Commander’s objective of enhancing IED awareness, search techniques, identification, and marking among members of the CJTF.

Kazeem expressed gratitude to the Theatre Commander for the provision of all necessary resources to ensure the successful execution of the training program.
