Police Warns Against Using IGP’s Name for Corruption

The Police Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has issued a stern warning to officers against using the name of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in corrupt practices, emphasizing that such actions constitute a criminal offense.

This caution was communicated in a statement released on Wednesday, titled, “Dropping IGP’s Name For Corrupt Practices, Extortion In Investigation Unfair, Criminal -FPRO.”

The FPRO also mentioned that the IGP himself has strongly condemned the act of name-dropping and extortion by officers.

In the statement, Egbetokun was quoted as denouncing the practice of officers using his name for extortion, emphasizing the negative impact it has on his reputation and the overall image of the police force.

The statement conveyed, “In a bid to uphold the highest standards of integrity within the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has unequivocally condemned any form of extortion and has issued a clear warning to all officers against using or dropping his name for such illicit activities.

“The IGP expressed deep concern, emphasizing that such actions tarnish the reputation of his person and the Police Force, thereby eroding public trust. The IGP emphasised that any officer found guilty of leveraging his name for fraudulent activities or extortion will face severe disciplinary measures.”

Egbetokun urged the public to report any attempts to exploit his name, highlighting the vital role citizens play in combating corruption within the system.
