N3.5bn fraud: LP Chairmen Ask Obi to Compel Abure to Step Down

The chairpersons of the Labour Party (LP) from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have urged the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, to pressure the National Chairman, Julius Abure, to resign and allow for a fair investigation into allegations of misappropriation of campaign funds leveled against him.

Led by Solomon Ndem from Plateau State, the chairpersons made this plea while addressing the press in Abuja.

Earlier, LP’s National Treasurer, Oluchi Opara, had accused Abure of mishandling N3.5 billion generated from the sales of nomination forms and other pre-2023 election activities. Abure, however, refuted these claims.

Nevertheless, the state chairpersons of the party are adamant that Abure must step down.

Ndem stated, “We stand before you with a profound appreciation for the responsiveness of HE Peter G. Obi, a stalwart in our party, for his swift action in response to the call for the external auditing of the LP accounts.”
