Unical VC Reveals Names of Abducted Students

The Cross River State police command confirmed on Sunday the abduction of three students from the University of Calabar (Unical).

According to Irene Ugbo, the command’s spokesperson, the students were taken on Thursday night from one of the university hostels on campus.

Superintendent of Police Ms. Ugbo, while confirming the incident, did not provide further details about the abduction. However, she mentioned that the police are collaborating with other agencies to secure the release of the abducted students.

An anonymous source disclosed the names of the abducted students as Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level student from the Department of Medicine and Surgery, Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level student from the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology, and Damilola Dickson, a final-year student from the same department.

Kidnappings of students, often for ransom, are unfortunately common occurrences perpetrated by criminal elements. This crime is widespread across the country, but it is particularly prevalent in the northern region, where several such incidents have occurred, including recent ones in Kaduna. Tragically, some previously abducted students remain in captivity to this day.
