Ekiti Govt Debunks claim of Attacks, Deaths in Viral Video

The Ekiti State Government has refuted a claim suggesting ongoing attacks on residents by unidentified gunmen, resulting in multiple fatalities. Following the recent assault on three traditional rulers on Monday, leading to the death of two of them, a viral video alleged that numerous lives had been lost in similar attacks in the state.

The video featured a woman speaking during Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s visit to one of the late traditional rulers’ families. Responding to the video, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, dismissed the notion of recent similar attacks, asserting that the allegations were emotionally charged and unfounded.

Contrary to the claims in the video, Olatunbosun clarified that no such attacks had occurred in the state in the last eighteen months. He acknowledged the recent attacks as reflective of the broader security situation in the country and assured that security agencies in the state were actively working to prevent a recurrence of the Monday incident.

Meanwhile, the Council of Traditional Rulers in Ekiti State, in a communique signed by its Chairman, Ayorinde Faboro, expressed sorrow over the deaths of two members and the abduction of school children and teachers in Emure-Ekiti on the same day. The council condemned the killings and kidnappings, urging all levels of government to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face legal consequences promptly. Additionally, they called on the Federal Government to deploy more security personnel to address the under-policing situation in Ekiti State.
