Fatal Robbery Strikes Ikere-Ekiti Banks

On Wednesday evening, armed robbery incidents targeted two new-generation banks in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, leading to concerns that three individuals may have lost their lives in the attacks. According to sources, the armed assailants executed the attacks around 4:30 p.m., using dynamite to blow open the bank doors and making off with an undisclosed sum of money.

An eyewitness reported discovering a lifeless body, soaked in blood, near the entrance of one bank. Additionally, the source indicated that two others were reportedly killed by the robbers in a different location within the town.

Confirming the incident, the source stated, “I can verify the killing of a man at one of the banks. He was shot in the head. The lifeless body remained at the scene until the police arrived, and people dispersed. I heard that two others were shot dead at another location.”

Another informant mentioned that the robbers employed both a motorcycle and a black car during the operations at the two banks. As people sought safety, the source added, “We also heard that their explosives struck a mini-van, damaging the vehicle along the road.”

A community leader, who wished to remain anonymous, denounced the attacks on the two banks and the unfortunate loss of lives. Expressing concern, the community leader highlighted the regrettable nature of the incidents, especially since the armed robbers operated for several minutes without hindrance, managing to escape.

The community leader disclosed that the traditional authorities in the area had alerted security agents, including the Area Commander, DPO, and DSS, who assured them that soldiers in the vicinity had been notified. Despite attempts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, for a response, no successful communication was established.
