NANS Condemns Killing of Plateau Varsity Students

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone C has strongly denounced the killing of Plateau State University students by gunmen. NANS has urged all levels of government to prioritize the security of students and educational institutions.

In a statement released on Sunday, NANS Zone C Coordinator Damel Friday Egga expressed the student body’s sadness and deep outrage over the attack on fellow students by suspected Fulani Militia and the use of live ammunition on innocent students by the military, leaving them in critical condition.

Egga emphasized the importance of students’ safety and security, stating that such violent acts against them are unacceptable. He demanded justice for the deceased students and immediate action to prevent future incidents.

NANS Zone C called on the Chief of Army Staff, military authorities, Commander OPERATION SAFE HAVEN, and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice within 72 hours. They also requested the provision of highly competent and professional personnel to ensure students’ safety and protection within Plateau State University, Bokkos.

The student body urged the government to take immediate action to enhance security in and around educational institutions across the country. NANS Zone C called on stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Plateau State Government, and security agencies, to collaborate and implement robust security measures to safeguard students’ lives and properties.

Egga extended the association’s deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims and pledged support for the Plateau State University Bokkos student community during this challenging time. He urged students to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of one another while believing that justice will prevail in honor of the fallen students.
