The Lagos State Police Command has issued a public apology to #EndSARS activist, Obianuju Catherine Udeh, also known as DJ Switch, for mistakenly reporting her arrest. Earlier, reports circulated that DJ Switch had been arrested and arraigned in court for allegedly assaulting a police officer in Lagos.
DJ Switch quickly refuted the arrest claim via her X handle (formerly Twitter), stating that she woke up to numerous phone calls and messages about her supposed arrest, which she dismissed as false information. She requested that the publishers of the news reports retract them to avoid a potential lawsuit for defamation.
The Lagos State Police Command, which initially released the information, acknowledged the error and apologized to some media organizations, including Lindaikeji, BBC, and TVC, that were misled.
In a subsequent statement on his X handle (formerly Twitter), spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin tweeted,
“There is a mixup from our end. Arrested person is DJ Commissioner Wysei not DJ Switch.
“Apologies for all inconveniences to a few media outfits like Lindaikeji, BBC and TVC that I gave confirmation this morning.
“Apologies to DJ Switch too.”
