The Kano State Government has taken legal action against the former Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his wife, Hafsat Umar, and five others, alleging corruption, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds during his tenure in office.
The lawsuit, filed on April 3, 2024, includes eight corruption charges totaling billions of naira and a list of 15 prosecution witnesses.
The charges accuse Ganduje of receiving bribes, dishonestly collecting kickbacks, and conspiring to convert public funds for personal use. The former Governor, his wife, a businessman named Abubakar Bawuro, and Safari Textile Ltd are accused of dishonestly converting one billion three hundred and seventy-six million Naira earmarked for the purchase and supply of face masks and other hospital equipment for the health sector.
The charges also include allegations of criminal conspiracy, misappropriation, and criminal breach of trust. The lawsuit alleges that the accused caused wrongful loss to the people and government of Kano State by diverting public funds for personal gain.
