The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has initiated an investigation into the alleged illegal activities of eight suspected petroleum product dealers without appropriate licenses in Akwa Ibom State.
Among the arrested suspects are Captain Pere Ebiye, DeckMan Okon David, and Chief Engineer Taiwo Adebanwo.
The suspects were apprehended onboard MV Jasmine with 30,000 liters of suspected crude oil, concealed in a cellophane-sealed compartment and Geepee tanks.
The Nigerian Navy, represented by Captain Uche Aneke, handed over the crew and exhibits to the EFCC on Tuesday. Assistant Commander of the EFCC ACE1 Bawa H. Saidu, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Navy, affirming the Commission’s commitment to partnering with security agencies to combat economic crimes in Nigeria.
