Ex-Brazil Star Dani Alves Sentenced to Four Years in Jail for Rape

Former Barcelona and Brazilian footballer Dani Alves has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub in Spain.

Alves, who has been in custody since January 2023, was convicted of the assault that took place in the bathroom of a Barcelona nightclub on December 31, 2022. Court documents revealed that initially, Alves claimed not to know the victim. However, after a biological test, Alves changed his statement and admitted to meeting her in the nightclub bathroom, asserting that the encounter was consensual.

Spanish media reports indicate that in addition to the prison term, which spans almost five years, Alves will also be placed on a five-year probation upon release and be subject to a restraining order lasting nine-and-a-half years. Furthermore, he has been ordered to pay $162,700 in restitution to the victim.
